He had connected rods made of charcoal, a form of the chemical element carbon, to a battery with two wires. Although the light didn't last long, it showed that some materials became so hot that they glow when electricity passes through them.WebThe light bulb creates light when electrical current passes through the metal filament wire, heating it to a high temperature until it glows. The hot filament is protected from air by a glass bulb that is filled with inert gas.
