WebThe name was later changed to Manaslu, which is derived from the Sanskrit word Manasa and can be roughly translated as Mountain of the Spirit. The first ascent of this peak was in 1956 by T. Imanishi and Gyalzen Norbu (Japanese expedition). The peak was not climbed again until 1971 when a Japanese team made the second ascent. WebClimbing Manaslu takes about 7 weeks, including the scenic trek to Manaslu Base Camp at 4,400 metres. The trekking route remains relatively untouched and is a highlight on its own. Compared to peaks such as Cho Oyu (8,188 metres), or Shisapangma (8,027 metres), climbing Manaslu is euqally challening in terms of technical conditions.
