WebbThe original lighthouse, built by Thomas Lutwige, was a 9 m (30 ft) stone tower lit by a coal fire. It was replaced after being gutted by fire in 1822. The present light was altered, presumably by installation of the current lantern, in 1866. The lighthouse was staffed until it was automated in 1987.
